Are We a Nation of Immigrants?

The phrase “we are a nation of immigrants” is often used to promote open borders and lax immigration laws, however, is it a true statement? Every nation has its own founding, government, and culture – including America. America was settled by Protestant Europeans, mostly English, who formed communities and colonies. The Founding Fathers, influenced by the Christian Bible and philosophers like John Locke and Montesquieu, designed a republican form of government, or a Constitutional Republic. In the settling of America and establishing it as a Republic, America developed its own culture, distinct from other nations. It is that already established nation that people immigrate to.

Many people in America today are descendants of ancestors who were born and raised in America. America is not a nation of immigrants but as Constitutional scholar, attorney, radio and television host Mark Levin said, “it is a nation of citizens.” This changes the narrative that immigration activists push and so few with a platform to do so challenge them on; the one either woefully ignorant or intentionally deceptive and the other just as ignorant or too lazy to take to task a false statement. This nation of citizens through its Founding documents and established laws, welcome immigrants who merit the privilege of becoming a part of “the American dream.”
